This quick-start guide will take you through the steps to run placement testing using the oxfordenglishtesting.com learning management system (OLMS). After you have worked through the recommended steps of this guide and familiarised yourself with the process of running placement testing, use this page as a quick reference chart.

Click the Admin tab and select Manage placement groups.
Click the create a new placement group button.
Give your group a name in Step 1 (e.g. Placement Testing July), then select one of the three options in Step 2. Click the more details links for more information about each of the options.
If you choose the first option (places for unknown students), enter the number of places you want to create.
If you choose the second option (using a list of email addresses), click the Browse button to find your file.
Finally, click the save button to add this group to the list of groups for placement testing.
The group has been added. Click OK. Click the delete link if you want to remove the group.
Click the Admin tab and select Manage teachers.
Click the add a new teacher button.
Complete the form. Click for more information about Teacher ID and Password.
Select Full admin rights for teachers that will run placement testing.
Click the save button to add this teacher to the list of teachers.
The teacher has been added. Click OK. Click the delete link if you want to remove the teacher.
Click the classes link to allocate the placement group(s) that you set up in Step 1 to this teacher.
Tick the box(es) to select the placement group(s) you want to give to this teacher, then click the save button.
Click the Tests tab and select Assign, then select the placement group from the drop-down list. Click the next button to proceed to the next step.
Select the Oxford Online Placement Test from the drop-down menu in option A (Assign a new test). The number in brackets, e.g. [20], shows the number of tests that are available to assign. Click the next button to proceed to the next step.
Click the next button to proceed to the next step.
Tick the student(s) you wish to assign the Oxford Online Placement Test to. Click the next button to proceed to the next step.
Check the summary and if necessary change the default Visible from date and the Due date. Enter the date or select the date from the drop-down calendar. Click the next button to proceed to the next step.
Check the summary carefully. You will see the default email that will be sent to students. (You will only see details for the first student in the group.) You can add an optional message to this email. Click the print button to print the summary. Click the confirm and send button to send the email with the log-in details.
Click the download & print button. Then, choose to open or save the file to get slips with log-in details for the students.
<Click the Admin tab and select Manage placement results.
Select the placement group that you want to check results for. Click the next button.
Hover over the CEF level (e.g. C1) in the CEF column for more information about the grade.
Click the column heading to sort that column. This will help you group students in order to move them into appropriate classes. For example, click CEF to group all students with the same CEF level together. Click the box to lock that column.
You can then sort results further by clicking on another column. Uncheck the box to unlock the column.
Click the Admin tab and select Manage placement results.
Select the placement group that you want to move students from. Click the next button.
Select the class you want to move students into from the drop-down list. Then, tick the students you want to move into that class. Finally, click the move button.
Click the Tests tab and select Markbook, then select the class that you moved your placement students into. Select to show All tests for individuals in this class or group. Click the next button.
You will now see your students’ placement test results in the Markbook for their regular class. Click the plus to see details for the Use of English and Listening results.
