STEP 1: Import a file containing your students information

To import a file you must first create an empty placement group, and then import your file.

To create the placement group:

  1. Click the Admin tab and select Manage placement groups.
  2. Click Create placement group and select Adult.
  3. Give your group a name in Step 1 (e.g. Placement Testing July).
  4. In Step 2, select the third option.
  5. Click the Save button, followed by Ok on the messages that appear

To create your file and import your students:

  1. Click the Admin tab and select Import from file.
  2. For extra help creating your file click the link for placement students/groups in step 1 of the Data import checklist.
  3. Click the placement link in step 2 of the Data import checklist to download the template.
  4. Enter your students information and save the file.
  5. Note:
    The file must be save as either .xls, .txt or .csv.
  6. Once your file is ready, return to the site and click next.
  7. Select Placement students and then click next.
  8. In step 1, select the name of the group you created.
  9. In step 2, if you have entered usernames and passwords into the file select the first option, otherwise select the second.
  10. In step 3, select the file type.
  11. In step 4, click the browse button and locate your file.
  12. Click the upload file button at the bottom of the page.
  13. Check the information. If there are any red errors, move the mouse over them to view a description, then correct the error in your file and try again.
  14. Click the next button.
  15. Check the summary and then click the Confirm and import button.
  16. Click the Manage placement groups link to check the import.
  17. Click the click here to accept or undo import link in the page banner.
  18. Click the confirm button

Once your group and students are created you can move onto assigning the test.
