STEP 1: Large groups: importing a file of students

To import a file of your students' names, you must first create an empty placement group. You can then import your file.

To create the placement group:

  1. Click the Admin tab and select Manage placement groups.

  2. Click Create placement group and select Young learners.

  3. Give your group a name in Step 1 (e.g.Young Learners July).
  4. In Step 2, select the third option.

  5. Click the Save button, followed by OK on the messages that appear.

To create your file and import your students:

  1. Click the Admin tab and select Import from file.

  2. For extra help creating your file click the link for placement students/groups in step 1 of the Data import checklist.
  3. Click the placement link in step 2 of the Data import checklist to download a Microsoft Excel template. Delete the sample data from the file before entering your students' information.
  4. Enter your students' Student ID numbers, First names, Last names and Email addresses into the relevant columns. All other columns are optional and can be left blank.
  5. Important:
    Leave the Username and Password columns of your file blank. Students’ login details will be created when you assign the tests.
    If your students do not have email addresses, you might want to enter their parents' email addresses. You can also make up email addresses, such as [firstname]@[lastname].com.
  6. When you have entered all of your students' information, save the file to your computer. Make sure you save your file as a supported file type (.xls, .csv, or .txt).
  7. Once your file is ready, return to oxfordenglishtesting.com. Repeat step 1 if needed. Then click next.
  8. Select Placement students and then click next.

  9. In step 1, select the name of the group you created.
  10. In step 2, select the second option. The system will create login details automatically.
  11. In step 3, select the type of file you are using (.xls, .csv, .txt).
  12. In step 4, click the browse button and find your file.
  13. Click the upload file button at the bottom of the page.

  14. Check the information. If there are any red errors, move the mouse over them to see a description, then correct the error in your file, save it and try uploading it again.
  15. Click the next button.
  16. Check the summary, then click the Confirm and import button.

  17. Click the Manage placement groups link to check the import.
  18. Click the click here to accept or undo import link in the page banner.

  19. Click the confirm button.

When you have imported your students, you can assign your tests.
